The 2023 Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics Combustion Academic Annual Meeting and the National Natural Science Foundation Combustion Project Progress Exchange Meeting was held in Fengda International Hotel, Hefei, Anhui Province from October 12 to 15. The conference was organized by the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, hosted by the University of Science and Technology of China, and supported by the Engineering Science Division of the Engineering and Materials Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. More than 1,700 representatives from more than 100 universities, research institutions and industrial enterprises attended the event. Cuxiang Academic provided a live broadcast platform for the conference, and the total number of online visitors exceeded 50,000.

On the morning of October 12, the opening ceremony of the National Natural Science Foundation Combustion Project progress Exchange meeting was held. Professor Shu Gequn, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University of Science and Technology of China attended and delivered a speech. Director Guan Yonggang and Director Chen Longfei of the Engineering Science Division 1 of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Researcher Liu Tao, former Director of the Engineering Materials Division 3 of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Researcher Nie Chaoqun, director of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, and Professor Huang Zhuohua, deputy director of the Combustion Committee of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, attended the opening ceremony of the fund exchange meeting. The opening ceremony was presided over by Liu Naian, Deputy director of the Combustion Branch of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics and director of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science of the University of Science and Technology of China. Guan Yonggang introduced the relevant requirements and arrangements of the fund burning project exchange meeting. After the opening ceremony, the Fund Exchange Conference conducted oral reports on the closing of 107 projects in four sub-venues, while 132 projects carried out interim progress wall display exchange.

On the morning of October 13, the opening ceremony of the 2023 Combustion Annual Conference was held. Shu Gequn, on behalf of the organizer, gave a welcome speech. Jin Hongguang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, and researcher of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a speech on behalf of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics. Professor Yao Qiang, Vice Chairman of Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, Director of Combustion Branch and President of Xinjiang University, delivered a speech on behalf of combustion Branch. Chen Longfei, Liu Tao, Professor Li Detao from Jiangsu University, Executive Director of Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, Secretary General of Combustion Branch, and Professor Qi Fei from Shanghai Jiao Tong University attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Liu Naian.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Shu Gequn, on behalf of the University of Science and Technology of China, expressed his warmest welcome to the leaders and guests attending the conference, and introduced the important achievements made by the University of Science and Technology of China in recent years and its due contribution to promoting the development of combustion science. Academician Jin Hongguang stressed that in the context of the energy technology revolution and the major demand for the "dual carbon" strategic goal, energy is the top priority, and combustion plays an important role in the low-carbon utilization of high-carbon energy. Yao Qiang pointed out that the "double carbon" goal actually creates more opportunities and development opportunities for the development of combustion science, and hopes that teachers at home and abroad can establish more friendship and cooperation through this conference. Chen Longfei summarized the funding and work of the 2023 Engineering Thermophysics and Energy Utilization Discipline Fund. At the opening ceremony of the conference, the award ceremony of 2023 Outstanding Contribution Award of Combustion Branch was also held. The award ceremony was presided over by Qi Fei. Yao Qiang presented the medal and certificate of outstanding Contribution award to Li Detao, and Qi Fei read the award speech.

During the conference, six experts including Prof. Marcus Alden from Lund University, Prof. Yan Jianhua from Zhejiang University, Prof. Jai-ick Yoh from Seoul National University, Prof. Yang Bin from Tsinghua University, Prof. Yuji Suzuki from the University of Tokyo, and Prof. Ji Jie from the University of Science and Technology of China were invited to make special presentations.

The annual Combustion Conference set up 12 parallel sub-meetings, read 12 special reports and 307 oral communication papers, displayed 406 wall post communication papers and 46 popular science works. A series of activities such as industrial forum, female scholars Salon, young scholars Salon and academic visit were also held during the conference.

On the morning of October 15, the closing ceremony of the conference was held, during which the award ceremony of excellent paper award, excellent wall poster award and excellent popular science works award was held, and Liu Naian gave the closing speech. Welcome speech by Professor Luo Zhongyang from Zhejiang University, the organizer of the next annual Conference of Combustion Science of China Engineering Thermophysics Society. Yao Qiang announced the Chairman of the Program Committee of the 2024 Combustion Academic Conference and the Chairman of the Program Committee of the 9th National Youth Combustion Academic Conference, and expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the hard work. The closing ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Zhihua of Zhejiang University, co-chairman of the 2023 Combustion Academic Conference.

The Annual Conference of Combustion Science of China Engineering Thermophysics Society is the highest level academic conference in the field of combustion in China. The Program Committee of this year's annual meeting is chaired by Huang Zuohua, Wang Zhihua and Professor Shi Yixiang of Tsinghua University. Shu Gequn and Liu Naian served as the chairman and executive chairman of the Organizing committee respectively. This conference brought together more than 1700 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad to exchange the innovative research progress of the combustion discipline in the past year, which is a high-level combustion academic event. The conference has built a high-level academic interaction platform for experts, scholars and enterprises in the industry, and has important strategic significance for promoting the transformation and development of China's energy and combustion disciplines under the background of "dual-carbon" strategy.
